Graduate Study Pre-Application Form

If you wish, you may provide additional information to any section of this form which you feel would provide insight to your interests and professional goals, using additional pages as necessary. This information will be reviewed by the Student Affairs Committee. Do not send transcripts now; you will be notified if a complete application is required.

Calculus Requirement:
All students are required to have successfully completed differential and integral calculus. If an applicant has not completed these requirements by the time of enrollment in the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences, they will be required to do so during their first year at LSU.
This requirement can be met by taking MATH 1550 (Analytical Geometry and Calculus I) and MATH 1552 (Analytical Geometry and Calculus II) at LSU. A student may register for those courses on a pass-fail basis with approval of the student's major professor, department chair, instructor of the course involved, and the dean of the Graduate School. The instructor will determine actual quality of work required to obtain a grade of "P".

GRE Requirement:
GRE scores are required and the pre-application form will NOT be accepted without GRE scores. In addition, the scores should not be more than 5 years old.

Financial Assistance:
Outstanding M.S. and Ph.D. applicants can compete for Board of Regents Fellowships. Full applications completed by early February will be considered for fellowships. After February, students will need to get assistantships from their individual faculty advisor. The number of available assistantships ranges from 10 to 15 per year from individual faculty members.
